Is Your Home A Home Or A Museum?

Some people keep their homes meticulously clean. They keep every part of their homes neat and tidy. There won’t be even a grain of sand on the floor or a speck or a stain. The floor will shine like a mirror and you will be able to see the reflection of your face on it. Everything will be kept neat and tidy and arranged in order, even the most trivial things. When I see such a home I often wonder-Is this a home or a museum?

I have a relative living not far away from my home. She is very fond

of keeping her home spotlessly clean. The floor of every room will be mopped twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. The floor always shines like a mirror. When I go there I find it difficult to enter her home and step on to the floor inside lest I should soil it.

There are a lot of curios exhibited in a show case kept in the drawing room. There won’t be a single particle of dust on any of them. Each of them is kept in a particular spot and she won’t tolerate seeing any of them displaced by an inch.

Each piece of furniture has a particular place assigned. Nobody is allowed to move them even a little. The curtains, table cloth etc. will be changed every three days and so, there won’t be even a particle

of dirt or dust on any of them.

You will find a number of magazines and books kept meticulously arranged in an order in a rack in the drawing room. They are intended for the visitors to read. But when I make a visit, I never dare to grab any of them for fear of upsetting their arrangement.

I feel very uneasy when I enter that house. I will hesitate to sit on a sofa or a chair in the drawing room fearing that I may soil the spotlessly clean fabric spread on them. There are no little children to upset these arrangements. I often wonder what she will do when a baby is born to her son.

It is a sort of obsession for some people to give too much importance to cleanliness and order. Of course there should be a fair level of cleanliness and order. But it should not be something like a mania. If it is, it becomes really boring. What do you think about it?
